Environmental Policy Example

A model environmental policy has been included in this Code of Practice for Photoprocessing laboratory managers to adapt to suit their local requirements. 

This policy is not a recommendation from either the PIC or Water UK and must be used only as a guideline. 

Your environmental policy should be displayed in a prominent position.

Introduction

As a company we are committed to protecting the environment in which we live and work.

It is company policy to meet all current UK environmental legislation.

In particular we will fulfil our Duty of Care and other responsibilities under the Environmental Protection Act and our effluent disposal obligations under the Water Industry Act. 

We will comply with the guidance given in the “COPPICE” document provided by PIC and Water UK.

We have adopted a policy of, wherever possible, avoiding waste production, and reducing, re-using and recycling, to minimise solid and liquid waste.

We will strive to protect the water environment by complying fully with statutory requirements and best practice in the handling, storage, use and disposal of all chemicals that we uses.

Our Policy

Our Environmental Policy publicly affirms our commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible manner. Emphasis is placed on continuously improving our performance, by reducing the environmental impact of our operations, and compliance with all relevant environment legislation.

In accordance with the above Policy commitments, the Laboratory will:

• Ensure our operations are safe for our employees, consumers, and the environment.
• Reduce or prevent the environmental impact of our operations and our products and packaging in their manufacture, distribution, use, and disposal.
• Meet or exceed the requirements of environmental laws and regulations.
• Continually assess our environmental technology and programs and monitor progress toward environmental goals.
• Provide appropriate factual information to consumers, customers, employees, communities, public interest groups and others. This includes relevant health, safety and environmental information about our products, packaging and operations.
• Ensure every employee understands and is responsible and accountable for incorporating environmental considerations in daily business activities.
• Have operating policies, programs, and resources in place to implement our environmental policy.
